The literal definition of the word "Holodomor" is "death by hunger" (from Ukrainian).

On behalf of the Ukrainian-American community of the State of Connecticut we would like to extend our gratitude to all the people who attended exhibit of contemporary Ukrainian art on April 6, 2008 at the Ukrainian National Home.

Due to your efforts we were able to raise funds that will cover a portion of the costs for the Commemorative march on May 17th, 2008 and the construction of a Monument to the innocent victims of the Ukrainian Famine in Washington D.C.*.

Please take a look at the photos from the show below (click images to enlarge them).

The show featured a wide range of media and styles of modern Ukrainian art. The artwork presented varied from traditional art, rooted in Ukrainian folk and icon paintings to Surrealism and Pop Art.
The show was a celebration of Ukrainian heritage as well as enduring optimism that sustained Ukraine through its darkest moments.

We would like to thank Halyna Dumansky, Pynylo Yuriy, Teterychko Roman, Rostislav Bulavko, Oleg Krupa and all "Krayany" for their wonderful help with the event. We would also like to thank the following Ukrainian artists for their participation in the show:

* "...Ukrainian American community considers it extremely important that a monument to the millions of innocent victims of the Famine-Genocide be built in our nation's capital. Standing in Washington, D.C., a symbol of democracy and liberty, the monument will serve as a reminder to all who have, or continue to, suffer under oppressive regimes. It is crucial that such chapters of world history be known and remembered." Michael Sawkiw Jr. (President of Ukrainian Congress Committee of America)
